Dragon’s Teeth? In Maui???

Yes there are and the famous ‘Book’ told us where to find them.  Really an interesting form of Lava, different from all the black lava you see here.  (Yet, surrounding this lava, was the more traditional black lava).  Walked further out on the jetty, but not all the way to then end… Man.. pointy, uneven hardened lava is not that easy to walk on…
There is a virtual Geocache out there, got to claim that too!

This is dried lava rock... not a lick of water on it...

See the teeth????

Looking out at the jetty.... and it goes beyond there even...

I love the waves crashing.... can you tell?

Now, this pic is looking at where we were standing as I took the previous pics... You can see some folks there... but we had walked out to the left edge... Didn't realize how far that was till we got on this side of the rocks...

Locals doing some fishing.... too scary for me to go out there!

Prayer Labyrinth... right out there... off of Kapalua (which is where the Dragon's Teeth Beach area is).  It's huge.  As we were walking out the jetty, Jerry decided he wanted to use it for it's purpose... I did some exploring aroung the rocks on my own...

Walking back to the car, you have to walk along part of the Kapalua Golf Course.  Found this weird looking plants off the beaten track.

Looking from the Golf Course, out to the sea....

Zippity do dah Zippity ... Our First ZipLine Adventure!

The bridge to our first Line.... the practice line... Bridge looks nice and solid... it is... but it is hanging from cables... no more than eight folks on it at a time... swayed like the original Galloping Gertie... We were excited and anxious all at the same time!

In case I don't see you again, honey... I love you... Let's go!
Coming down from the first line, they had us practicing different techniques for slowing down, speeding up, braking... etc... Course, when the camera came out, we did our best exaggeration!

This is a really bad pic of me... but, had to post it, so you knew I was on the trip

The other approaches to our lines were on cable type bridge thingees.... again... one at a time best, if two, each must take steps at the same time or it's a crazy ride!

Had the sense of mind to take a picture of Jerry and the ocean in the background ... It was so awesome... Each line we were able to ride side by side... I just had the camera out and snapped without looking through it.  Golly gosh, they turned out pretty good!

Peek at the Ocean.... We were up at about 2000 feet

After the first four lines, we were brought up to the top of the hill/mountain.... this was for the last two Ziplines.  One of which was 2800 feet long.... We loved it... Here you are looking out to the West Maui Mountains, Molokai, and Kahului in the valley...

Ahhhhh... proof we were there!!!!!!

Okay... we were at the end of one of the lines, and this was posed.... but ain't we grand?

This is live action, at the beginning of the 2800 ft run.... Hang Loose Baby!

After three hours of fun, had lunch at this yummy place Julie Andersen recommended... Lemon/Ginger/Coconut Rum drink for me... soooooo good, a superb meal... and since it was lunch, the prices did not break our bank (cuz dinner prices certainly would!!!!)

Let's visit those little places in 'The Book'

Maui never ceases to amaze!  We went walking early this morning and checked out a few geocaches.  We found several and, since it was early, there were not many folks out yet and that made it even easier!  As the morning progressed, we decided to drive up the North Shore and check out some sites recommended by the Maui Revealed book and friend, Stephanie.  So glad we did.  The scenery was beautiful!  The water so blue!
Once you leave  Hwy 30, you travel on a single lane road, hugging the sides of the hill/cliffs.  Not to bad, ‘cept when a car comes.  One of the two of you have to back up and find a little hideehole to wedge into so the other can pass.
We made our way to Julia’s Banana Bread Stand… had the best Taro Chips!  Then started the trek back and visited the Olivine Pools (which we could not enter, the ocean around them had pretty big swells and waves).  Had to laugh, as ‘the book’ describes all these places as ‘little known areas’…. HAHA… that was before they produced the book.  Ran into lots of folks who read ‘the book.’

Nearing then end of the highway

I did say one lane.... curvy and hilly....
\

Then, vista's like this come into view!

These are the 'Pools'... as you can see, when the surf comes up over them, they are not a safe place to be... so we just took pics and left it at that!

Guess who read 'the book'

Finally, we can start to relax!

So Tuesday started off with this txt from Jillian… a good attitude in my mind.

OB took her in to the hospital and stayed till she went off to snoozerville.  Her surgery was a success… My sister. MC, was a huge help and was their when she woke up.  A big thank you to the both of them!

After getting the updates from MC, we went off to the pool… Found a good shady spot… took a dip and I said I wanted to do the slide…. Big mistake… I laid down on the darn thing and was like a bullet going down it… bonked my head and my left foot… bruising on both…sucked in a good gallon of water through my nose... Dang… no fun… The slide wasn’t THAT big… but apparently the three circles it takes you on were big enough to hurt me, a novice slider!  Next time, Jean, sit up!!!!!

After we got back to our apartment, we rested and got ready for a LUAU!  Swore we’d had enough of luau’s, but this sounded fun and low key!  Was perfect and a nice way to end our first full day here!  Aloha!

This is the slide I hurt myself on.. certainly looks pretty tame... geezzzzz

A nice walk back to our room.....

We Are Going… Busted Kneecap or Not!

No, not mine or Jerry’s but Jilli’s… Happened last week on her bike… pretty bad… Our plans for this Hawaiian trip will still happen. Can tell you, no matter what age your kids are, they are still your kids?Surgery was scheduled for Tuesday and we left Monday. Praise God for cell phones… yup, the same cell phones I complain about. Jillian has been staying at our house since the injury, so thought I’d include a pic. Oliver stuck to her like glue... always sitting next to the knee.
We bid her farewell early Monday morning, and from then on, we were suppose to relax… excuse me… you all know me… relax with an impending surgery on my kid… Once I knew she had friends/family in place… it seemed a little better. We shall see…
Checked in the Westin and they upgraded us to a $1900 suite…. With no price increase for us! It is the size of a one bedroom apartment, is ocean front, about 100 feet from the shoreline and waves… pretty nice… included some pics… Beautiful Sunset… Time for bed… it’s been a long day!

Our place.... huge....!!!!!!
