Breakky at Aloha Mixed Plate and a quick stop in town... AND SHE WALKS!

After services, we went on to a little place that is well know with the locals.... Aloha Mixed Plate.... I was hoping to be able to order some Spam Moco Loco... alas, they only had hamburger so I passed on that... Serve both Hawaiin dishes and other mixed dishes... Off to town to make RSVP's for a whale watch and H and D checked in the Harley Shop....That's where you see Halley and Dan walking to.  Also, lots of crafts on sale.... Halley, after the Harley store, got back on the scooter and spent about an hour cruising.   Got back to the hotel.... H and D went to nap (of course) and Jer and I spent some time in the water.  So nice to be able to just do that.
Oh yeah, had to include a morning sunrise picture from our balcony!

Fortunately they had Mozzarlla sticks... Halley was happy!

View from my seat... that's the water out there....

Crafts under the Banyon tree that covers the whole block!

Yup.... this is hard to wake up to every morning!  Egads, I just looked out the window... WHALE JUMP!

Church on the Beach...

So cool to be on vacation and go to this little worship gathering right next to the beach!  Good message too!

A fun little Car Trip !

Spent the day Saturday mostly in the car. Early in the day, Halley had a mani/pedi, while Dan waited in the spa for her to finish. Meantime, Jerry and I got snookered into going to a Westin Resort presentation. Ahhhhhh, nice place available if you want to spend $69000 and then $2600 a year maintenance. BUT, you can trade you unit time for up to 28 days to stay at Westin Family hotels. Would be nice, but not in our future.

When Halley finished her treatment, we all had a late lunch and then we took H and D to see the Maui Tropical Plantation…. Kinda touristi… but, they liked it. We also got a bridge picture there…. Not the best, but better than nothing. (Liz, we have a bridge picture from the Grand Wailai further down on the blog…) Anyway, when that was done, we took the north road back…. Most people go on the Hana Hwy…. not us, we went on the unimproved, one lane, steep cliffs road…. Was really fun… nerve racking…. Dan loved it, Halley wasn’t so crazy about it. Even stopped at a lady’s home where she bakes and sells Banana Nut Bread…. It’s well know to the locals. Got there, down a steep driveway only to find the folks that were there before us just bought the last one! Settled for some coconut cream pie and wood chips (baked thick shavings of raw coconut)…. Yummy! By the tine the day ended, we weren’t really very hungary, so we all went to our rooms… Halley and Dan, though, made a run for a meal about 7:30 in the hotel. They are always welcomed by the waithelp.... you know, I'm sitting here thinking, I wonder if they are tipping????

Taking off on the little train....

Coconut demonstration.... If the liquid doesn't come out clear that's in the middle, DON'T DRINK IT, or you might be spending some time in the bathroom....

Each coconut has this little face on it...Legend has it its a monkey .... the mouth part is the place you can pierce to get the coconut milk.... The eyes, you can't pierce.... we saw her try...

Taking the road less taken, see what we ran into!  and the views, well, they were extreme... photos do not do them justice

Just a quickie on the resort with some pics....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A-HAugbhlII

It really is a whole lot prettier than this video gives the impression of!

Watch out! Here's comes the queen on her scooter... geez!

Friday was pretty low key… more time in the ocean…. Early lunch and then early dinner  at Bubba Gumps, in Lahania Town before the show “Ulalena” which is a very, very well done dramatic interpretation on Maui’s creation… way different than what we saw at the Luau! No pics, sorry bout that! Oh, take a look at Halley’s transportation…. The darn thing weighs a ton and Jerry and Dan get to do all the heavy lifting. They get it out of the van, and within 10 seconds she’s off leaving us in the dust!

Life is rough here on the Islands!

Ahhhhh, another day in paradise has gone by….and beautiful it was. A little hazy but the sun and warmth was still there. Really took time to explore the grounds of the hotel… very pretty… Halley and Dan opted for massages (no surprise there) so Jerry and I spent the morning playing in the ocean and even catching a snooze on the beach. Whale activity in the water really started popping in the afternoon. We are looking for a boat that we can get Halley on pretty easily and actually go out and look at them close up!

Can You guess which room is Halley and Dan's?  Yup, the one with the white TABLECLOTH on the lanai... They had room service for breakfast... meanwhile, Jerry and I had Starbucks and an Egg Wrap we went down and got and brought back up to our room.  Found out what that meal cost for the young ones... $80.... we had to lay down some firm rules pretty quickly...

Last night we went to the LeLe Luau. Very fun, and even better, you didn’t have to go through a buffet line. They delivered the food, in four courses… each from a different set of islands that helped create the traditions of the Hawaiin Islands. Then in between each course, you saw dance traditions from those islands…:Hawaii, Tahiti, New Zealand and Samoa. Add to that, we were literally, right next to the water, looking at the sun set over Lanai…. No words to really describe it!

SO, I was wondering... just what do they wear under those little things?

A Maui Bird Condo

A nice, open airy bird condo..... glad they have the little covering on the bottom so his toilet doesn't flush on those passing underneath....

A nice day ending with a huge BANG!

First thing this morning (weds), after brekky, Halley and Dan headed to the chotsky stores and Jerry and I turned left, toward the beach, and hung out in the ocean for about 20-30 minutes…. So fun to just float there on our backs… After we got out, we decided to clean the sand off us with the beachside showers and then headed into the resort’s pool(s). Swam there a bit, swimming through overhead waterfalls then found our way to a couple chairs. Meanwhile, the dynamic duo are STILL chotsky shopping. That money will burn a hole in there hands if they don’t spend it quick! Eventually we hooked up for lunch.
We went into Lahania Town later in the afternoon and visited with Jerry’s high school friend Curt(and one of Halley’s favorite of her Dad’s friends). He owns “Jade Tiki” there in the town and has made Maui his home for years and year…. We will grab a meal together later during our stay! Halley’s scooter was quite nice for her….no more glistening as we went through town…. Course the rest of us were glistening…heehee! Dinner at “Cheeseburger in Paradise” while watching a beautiful sunset. Later, when we were driving home, there was heat lightening in the mountains … The last picture is of the Sheraton with the skies being lit by some lightening…. Alright… starting to ramble!

NEWSFLASH! I typed this last night before we went to bed. WELL, We were awoken at 2:30 with the loudest and longest lightening and thunder storm…. AND it last almost 2 hours…. Never had one last that long in my life…. I told Jerry, if we can’t be enjoying the snow, at least we have had a really cool (and safe) lightening/thunder storm…

A great flight and a wonderful way to wake up!

Wow… very very nice here…. The flight was a bit bumpy, but nothing too bad… up early now, with the sun, just about up totally, we’re looking west and I’m seeing the clouds turn a pretty pinkish hue. Already have seen a whale while I’m listening to the surf come on the shore, awesome. We are facing the beach, 10 stories up, and about 100ft from the surf…. Lanai is clear, while Molokai has a mushroom of clouds on the top. Not sure what today holds but we made arrangements for a mobility scooter for Halley…. She gets sooooo red in the face and, well, I’ll say, “glistens” all over her body if we walk for any distance. Hope it makes things more comfortable for her…. Two whales just now are frolicking in the water… one just spouted! Okay… Only have a couple pics from the plane and our first view of Maui as we came in…. it is so green… have a great day guys…. I am envious you are supposed to be getting snow….

Well, we are almost off!

Picked up Halley and Dan last night from the airport.... spent the night here in the Seatac area for our flight today.... so much easier than driving home, go to sleep and then get back up for the drive back, parking, etc. Hearing there may be snow here while we are gone.... unfair, unfair, unfair.... me the great snow lover.... however, I am very happy to be going where we are going!
