Our first stop in Rabat was this great little boutique restaurant. Food was quite good and plentiful. You really have to pace yourself and not be part of the 'clean your plate' club. We had some extra time so we walked the grounds there. The gardens were beautiful... There was even a resident peacock who made it's presence know with the eerie call sound they are are know for. The purple Jacaranda trees are in bloom everywhere here and through Morocco. Vibrant and pretty!
Love the name and logo of this place!
The building below is the new Opera House... Hasn't even opened yet, but it's been completed for about 3 years. The design is to look like a cobra... I'd say they did pretty good!
We visited the Mohammed V Mausoleum... entering the through the gates guarded by a soldier and horse. The current king of Morocco dedicated it to his grandfather (moved him from his original burial site) who is considered the founder of modern Morocco. It's been closed since Covid and they still have not yet opened it for visitors yet. There are quite a few places that have remained closed by the way. Fortunately, those places are not ones we were really interested in anyway.
Mausoleum... quite grand
This Minaret was started near the end of the 12th century. The tower was intended to be the largest minaret in the world,[2] and the mosque, if completed, would have been the largest in the western Muslim world. When al-Mansur (the kind who commissioned it) died in 1199, construction on the mosque stopped. And, remains unfinished today!
Another pic of the Opera House
