A beautiful day with lots of sun and sporadic clouds greeted us this last full day we will be here. We headed to the square where Jerry watches folks coming in to see if there are any of his 'buds' he'd walk with before. It's so moving seeing folks come into the square, sometimes in tears, sometimes with big grins... they just can't believe they made it... be it 500 miles from St Jean (as Jerry did) or 66 miles from Sarria. Everyone is so happy they completed their Camino, whatever that may be.
We wandered through Old Town, checked out the St Francis Cathedral, where the Pilgrim Mass is held during the big cathedral's refurbishing. I will say, there are so many cathedrals here in Spain (well, and other European cities too), all so beautiful and each with it's own story.
We eventually stopped for a cooling Cervaza with Limon... and then off we went again! We were on the hunt for the Camino Trail that goes to Finisterre (where we drove to a couple days ago). After wandering down a path, a street, a side alley, we came to the Camino Monument-- woohoo -- we found the trail. I told Jerry I wanted to walk at least a mile on the trail - and I did! I was just ecstatic. Temp was nice, the scenery was pretty... I felt like, in a way, I was getting to experience what Jerry had been doing for the last 5 weeks! I was a very happy camper!
After about 4 miles walked about today, we found a short cut home, with a gorgeous and different view of St James Cathedral from a field of green. It was awesome!
Got back to our room to rest awhile and enjoyed a dinner of Wine, Salad, a Cheese Assortment and delicios Bread. It was a perfect way to end a special day.
Tomorrow we will be heading to Madrid. Not sure what trouble we can get into there, but excited to see!
Time to Cool Down!
Almost back to the hotel...
A perfect meal to complete the day... well, there was food with it too!
Beautiful & so glad you found the Camino! Only 499 or 65 miles to go Jean--you could do it! :) Travel on...
