Oh My Gosh... we slept in till 10:30!!! Guess we needed the zzzzz's to conquer the day coming up... no not really, it was pretty low key. Walking, a visit to the Peregrino Museum, a walk through St James Cathedral, and then more walking. Lunch in a street cafe was quite delightful; later found some gelato! So, a much quieter day... well deserved!
We liked this note on what motivates folks to walk the Camino
Found a geocache... can you see it above the pillar cap... small and black
The cathedral is having such major renovations... Was nice they made allowances for pilgrims and visitors. Almost all the side chapels were empty... wonder where everything is stored?
See the jar hanging on the rope next to the middle pillar, that's the Incense Burner that, when the chapel is open, swings back and forth controlled by 5 people... Obviously we couldn't see it in action but did check it out on the computer later.. The prevailing story on why they have the incense burner all the time, was because when the pilgrims came in from their Camino, they were kinda stinky... hummmm, wonder if that's true! Right now, it's just a small urn, during services, it's huge... see Youtube
We got to go behind the altar, up some stairs to the St James bust... where tradition is to kiss it... oh not I didn't...
Inside the Sanctuary... that is one HUGE cherub up there!
Great low-keyed day! Stinky pilgrims, ya think???? hahaha! Geocache on....
