Started the day with a banana for an early snack and was hoping to meet up Meika. We had talked last night but something crossed up and we did not meet. No biggee! I am walking alone again, I am totally cool with that, but what’s best is I’m walking on pavement. Feels much better on my blisters. It’s a cool day, probably about 50. I just took a picture is overcast and drizzling but, all in all, a very nice day: the birds are talking, wishing me a good morning and I’m off and walking. Oh, good news, in that all my clothes dried overnight!
Before I left, a new friend, Bill, found a container with some of electrical adapters stuff. I think it belongs to the Italians who left early morning, so I took it. I hope to catch up with them before I veer off the path. I knew I was going to be at Villa Fria in Burgos tonight, staying at a Hotel.
I passed a couple restaurants and looked for the Italians to no avail. I went third restaurant to have a sandwich (I think it was more of a local bar as were some young folks who had already been drinking and seemingly carousing a bit. As in other drinking establishments, inside smells pretty smoky even though there are designated areas. I had a cheese sandwich and a Coke to get a little energy and I got out some candy bars just in attempt to hide another one for Hannah and Steffi. I left somewhat quickly as it was not a very nice place... I was the only pilgrim when I arrived, but others arrived later... I headed out to find the Italians... thought maybe I saw them ahead but then remembered I had not paid for my food. I was only about 3 minutes from the bar so it was not bad... Mieke passed me as I headed back... I paid the bill and hurried up to try and catch Mieke prior to the place I would be going as I was going to take the less traveled path to Burgos. Didn’t catch her.
It turns out the less traveled path is the best marked one as it was the original path; I think many people may take it because they or their guide do not show the newer paths. I met Steve from Superior Wisconsin and we walked together till my hotel. He thought he might stay also, but it was too soon so he wanted to go on.
In reviewing the day, I think I walked fast, given my feet condition, in an effort to catch Romano and his wife and friend as I think the box of electronics is his... but I did not find them. I walked for a while with Nick (a friend of Marshall also attending The Citadel) who seems a very nice young man. He hopes to attend medical school and become a cardio thoracic surgeon. He seems to have his head pretty clear but is here to get more clarity.
I am now in VillaFria on the outskirts of Burgos. I booked a hotel as I want to go through Burgos during a work day and today is Sunday so many stores are closed (My plan is to shop for some more inserts, sun protection for my lips, etc.). But I arrived sooner than I thought so the hotel is still locked. The restaurant is open and I am sitting outside waiting for noon when the hotel should open. Funny thing, Mieke was just preparing to leave the restaurant beside the hotel where I am staying. I was pleased to be able to see her. Not sure I will again.
Interesting afternoon at Hotel Buenos Aires in Villafria Spain. I was able to get into my room about 12:30. I unpacked my pack to access my stuff and laid down for a snooze. I woke up in a couple hours and spoke with Jean a while... just because I could... also to seek wisdom from her regarding tomorrow in Burgos and shopping. About 5:00 I went down and checked into the hotel and then went to the restaurant only to find they only serve light food until 8:30. I didn’t want to stay up and eat that late so I called a local Dominos to see about delivery... had to hand the phone to a local to clarify where I am ... after maybe 5-10 minutes of them talking they determined that they don’t deliver in this area. I’ve included pictures of the snacks they have to offer. None of it really looked good to me. So I shifted to snacks... For dinner I had two small packaged muffins, two beers, and a bag of cocktail mix.... actually was pretty good.
I am going to get to bed by 9:00 and start my day at about 6:30 I believe. As always, wishing all well... enjoy a blessed day, evening and night. Buon Camino.
The overcast soupy day
The road less traveled personified!
Hahaha have to agree with you on the snack/light foods! Walk on as you're able....

The alburgue municipal in Burgos is quite nice. Great place for a layover and to get someone to look at your feet.
