This morning, lights on at 6 o’clock, 18 people in one room, plenty of noise so I get up and get dressed. I let my blisters be exposed last night to try & dry them out. Put on new Compeed pads, took the inserts out of my shoes, and determined I would walk today without them, but, if I have issues, put the Compeeds back in. I’ll give it a try for a couple kilometers. I’m off on my own this morning. If I see Meika on the trail, I will walk with her, if I don’t, I won’t (duh!). No breakfast again as I have a banana and a muffin but I am hoping to find a coffee shop in one of the couple of towns ahead of us. Walking slow again on a beautiful day threatening rain yet not raining yet. Still thanking God for the day and the scenery. Although you wouldn’t know it, as I didn’t take many pics…
It’s about 8:30 am now and I have worked through two towns. I think I saw Meika having coffee, but I decided I didn’t want to stop there. Somewhat difficult getting on and off the trail and my feet don’t feel any better after resting. I find I’m kind of in a groove, so I’m continuing. Still no rain, it’s just threatening, I’m going slow, probably 3 km/h maybe four, somewhere in there. I think at about 10 km there’s another town I may stop for lunch.
I just left another little town, took a selfie with a church with yellow flowers in the background. We are climbing now, away from the road. Can’t see beyond the hill so not sure what’s ahead. I know there’s another town up there somewhere and eventually I will get there! Ages, I think is the town I will sleep at tonight, but it is still quite a bit further.
After I ate, I met Karen who was walking solo. We walked for a couple hours, I think. She is from Singapore and is a Catholic... the time passed more easily as we walked. Walking alone with issues makes it challenging to get beyond the issues so you can’t see, hear and think as one might on the Camino. We climbed about 1,000 ft today... was not so difficult as it might have been... again talking as we went. Over the top we stopped for something to drink... was warm inside so when I came out, I felt chilly as it never did warm much today. Shortly after getting going again, my toes began to feel crowded in my shoes. Yup, I’m ready to call it quits for the day.
All worked out and I got to my Albergue for today about 1:00 as they were opening. A few people were in line before me, but I did have RSVP’s. I opted to have some of my laundry done. After 9 tonight, it was brought into the common room. Pretty frustrating as it was not dried enough and still damp. I’ll get it figured out on how to deal with it. I have made the decision to stay tomorrow in Villafria de Burgos. Made RSVP’s, it’s on the outside of the city. I need to buy some new inserts and replace the glove I lost, so I need to be in this bigger place, over 150,000 folks. Being closer to town/city, I can search for my stuff on Monday (stores are not open on Sunday). Also, found out there’s some sort of holiday in town tomorrow, so, I’m glad I have a place to stay. I’m imagining, I’m gonna miss some of the beautiful scenery but the positive is I will be walking on a paved path vs gravel… will feel nicer on my feet.
Time for bed. Gonna send this on the Jean! Love to all! Thank you for the prayers!
Just remembered, the folks I met earlier, found my hidden treat! Sent a pic! Plus, we had been discussing who does maintenance on the Pilgrim Trail... They found a guy touching up the yellow arrows of the trail!
Getting a room! or should I say bed!
Hope this stuff can dry out over night... it's 48 outside and night time, so not using the clothesline!
So they found the treats I hid the other day! and someone maintaining the trail!
Definitely listen to your body--- it needs rest at times....says someone who has difficulty with this concept--hahaha! Enjoy your days & all that you learn. Walk on ......
