What another great day! We often cannot believe we are getting to experience all this. We woke up this morning and headed to a town on the Italian Riviera coast. Out trip there found us enjoying the sites of San Gimignano… another gem in the country… I swear… every place there is a gem! This town has medieval towers, built in the 12th century… There were 72 two towers throughout the town… but, alas, only about, gee, I can’t remember, but less than twenty remain. We went to a museum just opened, that shows, in a scale of 1/100 what the town actually looked like back in the day. The town, though, has been there longer than the 12th century… yup, that thing with the Etruscans that seem to have started so many, many of the settlements in Italy…then in some places the Romans came, on and on.
Had a great meal overlooking the Tuscan valley with its beautiful landscapes right now.. Olive and Fig trees, here the grapes have been harvested, but leaves or turning on the plants, and plowed fields… gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous.
We have now arrived in Viareggio… can’t call this a quaint town… but it’s a coastal town. Warm, comfy breezes coming in from the water… however, the beach… not so nice… really big, but felt dirty. Our hotel… OH MY GOSH!... look at our room! We feel very, very spoiled… Corner room, about 3 floors down from the top dome in the picture with 270 degree view. The pool on top of the building… awesome!
So, tonight dinner and then some time to rest up… Ciao to all my friends…
Wild Boar meat... hamlike thingees....
