We left our seaside town and headed for LaSpezia… another seaside town… but a BIG city. I think about 100,000. We used this as our launching point to travel to Cinque Terre. This little area we approached by boat… even the ride to our destination was filled with so much! I included a pic of this big black docked yacht, if you read Stephanie Plumb novels, it reminded me of “RangeMan” and all his covert stuff. Anyway, back to the trip there. As you can see the day was gorgeous! The water was like a milk pond… no swell, blue skies… ahhhhh, a little piece of heaven on earth.
I first became of Cinque Terre from a high school classmate, Jan, who visited this past spring.. She talked of it and now we got to experience it. It’s five little towns (well, they call them hamlets) that cling to the cliffs or are concealed in minature inlets. You can hike from town to town… alas, not enough time to do them, but while, we were in Vernazza, we started out on the trail…. Up, up, up, up and the view...Notice Linda taking a pic… and what she is perched on… overhanging… well, nothing! Then you can see me (and one of Jer)… overlooking the town and inlet. Then, there is a pic of Jer… next to one of the vineyards…. Yes, they grown grapes and olives there… on the cliffs. Had a great meal… Pesto al Trofie… Pasta, Potatoes and Beans (Green)…. Oh my gosh… what a different combination that I feel in love with!
So, after Jerry made sure he put his toes in that part of the Mediterranean, actually, it’s another ‘sea’ there… but he considered it all the same… we made way for the train to get back to Le Spezia and head for Florence… What an memory making day! But, haven’t they all been!
