FIRENZE…… Florence

We are in a big city again, but so different from Roma. So much more Art History here. Today, we walked through many streets, cultural piazza’s and of course, stores galore. But, the highpoint of today was our visit to Accademia Gallery… it houses the original statue by Michelangelo, “David”…. There is a copy of the statue that stands outside the in the Piazza Signoria at the entrance to the Florence City Hall… and that, too, is a building of size.
In the Accademia Gallery (no photo’s allowed) are some more works of Michelangelo… There were five statues that look like they are coming out of the marble… looking incomplete. Quite a story surrounding them… And, as you walk to the center of the facility.. there is the Statue of David… such magnificence… you cannot imagine the detail… the grandeur yet the simplicity of the statue… David, the look on his face, the slingshot, the hand gripping the stone, tight… gives me chills.
Walked by the Duomo, Cathedral of Santa Marioa del Fiore The size was of the dome and the building, well, another ginormous structure. We opted not to go in… we’re kinda churched out…know what I mean… Also, went by the Baptistry… another large, building.
By the way, the David Statue outdoors also, had lots of other artwork around. Snapped a few pics there.
Decided to get a bite to eat in the Piazza della Repubblica… which, in BC was a Roman forum… told you those Romans got around. They actually founded Florence. Lunch, I had some wine… I cannot do that… didn’t feel like doing much after that…. So, I’m writing this….
HOWEVER, tonight we go to the Ferragamo Museum for a tour of the museum and a wine tasting with Ferragamo’s grandson and his wife. Excited. There will only be about 20 of us there. I can’t wait to see all the shoes…
