What a fun day... rather I should say morning! We sailed from Foss Waterway with about 40 folks on board. A 100 year old ketch... I think it's a ketch.... The sails were hoisted just after we got out the waterway! So beautiful!
Also happen to be the Marine Daffodil Parade.... Got to see the boats all decked out in their flowers; some even were theme oriented!
You know, there is something about being on the water... yes, it was a bit chilly, but not too bad... the sun was out more often than not, the water calm, a soft breeze, puffs of clouds! This is a wonderful memory for our memory banks!
Sailing aboard the Adventuress and seeing Daffodils!

Whoopee, First Class on the way home!
Well, all good times must end, and same goes for this trip... We had a great lunch at Lahania Grill/Fish House on our way to the airport. There is something about eating on a deck right over the water. Pretty cool!
This journey has been fun, full of 'Halleyism's (those of you who know what I am talking about know what I mean!) For example, she insisted that she had never been to the mainland. huh???? Told her that where she came from.... Negative (in her mind)... after a bit of discussion... what she really meant was, she had never been to the Big Island! All in a day's events. Got lots more of them too.
Nice to have gotten the First Class on the way home. Saw a cute movie, "Going the Distance" with Drew Barrymore, had a couple MaiTai's, finished a book... and Bam! it was 11:00 pm and we were descending... went so fast, and I never even feel asleep. Like it when it ends that way!
And so, we leave the isle of Maui.... Next, we will take them to the "Big Island"... Hawaii.... or as Halley called it, 'the mainland!"

Birds of a feather…. Hanging with Jean!
They were cleaning the tropical birds perches in the hotel, and one little guy got to know Jean really well… and had several cute little saying he could be repeat: Aloha, How are you, Pretty Girl, on with the likes of those!

Halley and Dan finally join us at the beach…!
I was looking for a sweet shot of them going in the water…. What happened next no one could have planned…
A small praise here. We were all in the water about 30 minutes. We keep a close eye on both of them and we all laughed and floated and rode the soft swells. Got back to shore and within less than 5 minutes, Dan had a Grand Mal Seizure right there on the beach. He had just laid on his towel. I stopped and said a prayer of thanks to God! It could have been in the water and Jerry and I would have been struggling to keep him afloat as he really stiffin’s (word?) up. Now you may be asking, why let him in the ocean…. We try to give both of them as many safe experiences as we can…. We do it realizing what can happen and are always ready to jump in and help them. But, PTL! All ended well!

A Shower of Whale Snot!
Yesterday lived up to our expectaions ! We say whales up close and persona…. Well, not too close, against the law. Pretty cool…. But close enough, the spray that comes out when they spout (Blow) drifted over to us!.... Hence the ‘whale snot’. The longer we were out, we found the water got kinda sloppy, as the trades were really kicking up. But, the trip was so worth it. At the end, we saw a Mama whale breech, then her baby breech…. And do we have a pic…………noooooooooooo…. You have to have your camera on 24/7, always looking through it and, well, I don’t do that. But trust us, it was a beautiful sight! Good news to on the skin front…. No sunburns…. That 50x lotion did it’s job. Did get a little ‘wind burn’ feeling on the face, sorty dry feeling, but that was it! My word, a whale just breeched in front of the hotel. Okay…. I’m off!

Breakky at Aloha Mixed Plate and a quick stop in town... AND SHE WALKS!
After services, we went on to a little place that is well know with the locals.... Aloha Mixed Plate.... I was hoping to be able to order some Spam Moco Loco... alas, they only had hamburger so I passed on that... Serve both Hawaiin dishes and other mixed dishes... Off to town to make RSVP's for a whale watch and H and D checked in the Harley Shop....That's where you see Halley and Dan walking to. Also, lots of crafts on sale.... Halley, after the Harley store, got back on the scooter and spent about an hour cruising. Got back to the hotel.... H and D went to nap (of course) and Jer and I spent some time in the water. So nice to be able to just do that.
Oh yeah, had to include a morning sunrise picture from our balcony!

Church on the Beach...
So cool to be on vacation and go to this little worship gathering right next to the beach! Good message too!

A fun little Car Trip !
Spent the day Saturday mostly in the car. Early in the day, Halley had a mani/pedi, while Dan waited in the spa for her to finish. Meantime, Jerry and I got snookered into going to a Westin Resort presentation. Ahhhhhh, nice place available if you want to spend $69000 and then $2600 a year maintenance. BUT, you can trade you unit time for up to 28 days to stay at Westin Family hotels. Would be nice, but not in our future.
When Halley finished her treatment, we all had a late lunch and then we took H and D to see the Maui Tropical Plantation…. Kinda touristi… but, they liked it. We also got a bridge picture there…. Not the best, but better than nothing. (Liz, we have a bridge picture from the Grand Wailai further down on the blog…) Anyway, when that was done, we took the north road back…. Most people go on the Hana Hwy…. not us, we went on the unimproved, one lane, steep cliffs road…. Was really fun… nerve racking…. Dan loved it, Halley wasn’t so crazy about it. Even stopped at a lady’s home where she bakes and sells Banana Nut Bread…. It’s well know to the locals. Got there, down a steep driveway only to find the folks that were there before us just bought the last one! Settled for some coconut cream pie and wood chips (baked thick shavings of raw coconut)…. Yummy! By the tine the day ended, we weren’t really very hungary, so we all went to our rooms… Halley and Dan, though, made a run for a meal about 7:30 in the hotel. They are always welcomed by the waithelp.... you know, I'm sitting here thinking, I wonder if they are tipping????

Taking off on the little train.... |
Coconut demonstration.... If the liquid doesn't come out clear that's in the middle, DON'T DRINK IT, or you might be spending some time in the bathroom.... |
Each coconut has this little face on it...Legend has it its a monkey .... the mouth part is the place you can pierce to get the coconut milk.... The eyes, you can't pierce.... we saw her try... |
Taking the road less taken, see what we ran into! and the views, well, they were extreme... photos do not do them justice |

Watch out! Here's comes the queen on her scooter... geez!
Friday was pretty low key… more time in the ocean…. Early lunch and then early dinner at Bubba Gumps, in Lahania Town before the show “Ulalena” which is a very, very well done dramatic interpretation on Maui’s creation… way different than what we saw at the Luau! No pics, sorry bout that! Oh, take a look at Halley’s transportation…. The darn thing weighs a ton and Jerry and Dan get to do all the heavy lifting. They get it out of the van, and within 10 seconds she’s off leaving us in the dust!

Life is rough here on the Islands!
Ahhhhh, another day in paradise has gone by….and beautiful it was. A little hazy but the sun and warmth was still there. Really took time to explore the grounds of the hotel… very pretty… Halley and Dan opted for massages (no surprise there) so Jerry and I spent the morning playing in the ocean and even catching a snooze on the beach. Whale activity in the water really started popping in the afternoon. We are looking for a boat that we can get Halley on pretty easily and actually go out and look at them close up!
