Had a good night’s rest last night and slept in a bit (heard from Jean, her’s wasn’t quite so great!). Anyway, I left the pension about 830 after breakfast (has become a bit of a standard- cafe con leche, a banana, and a chocolate sort of croissant). Threatening rain so I put the rain fly on my backpack. It did rain for about five minutes. I took some pictures of the clouds and the greenery. The rain is done now and the sky is mostly blue. I’ve taken a couple pictures of that also... another glorious day that the Lord has made I am rejoicing and I’m glad in it.
I am in Sarria now. I hope to check into my hotel at 1 o’clock. La Casona de Sarria is the name. I met a lady named Kayla from Buffalo New York and we walked probably the last hour together. She seems a very nice lady, runs her own online business. She’s taking a break right now doing no business and enjoying the Camino. She started her Camino in Leòn... and is walking to Santiago.
Today, there were some pretty steep uphills and one very steep downhill in the trees and dirt, dry mostly, and I was in a controlled chaos on the way down, very comfortable very going very fast, knees bent, just letting the weight and gravity carry me down and it worked pretty well. I saw Kayla walking back towards me (I’d seen her before)... turned out she dropped a banana about 100 feet back. that started our conversation and we enjoyed talking until we get to Sarria. She was going to her hotel and I went to mine. Another one of the many special opportunities on the Camino: to meet someone and get pretty well acquainted and then say ‘goodbye’, all in a short span of time, maybe 30 minutes or maybe a few days, but generally an hour or two in my experience here.
I stopped and had some fresh squeezed orange juice with ice, boy, it was very good. I hope to check in shortly and relax and communicate with Jim and maybe go find something to eat I’m not sure.
I was able to check in and get settled... very nice place... I had a shower, then I spoke with Jean for a bit... and Jim arrived and we have been catching up on our Camino experiences since the last time we were together.
This hotel offers beer, pop, coffee, tea, and packaged small muffins... gratis... so I had a beer with lemonade and a coffee and milk and a muffin... all before Jim showed up. He is doing well, has been hammering out some long walks. Feet still tender and looking bad, but feeling pretty good.
Hoping for a pizza
in the near future.
We did go out to the suggested pizza place and it was quite good! As was a bottle of vino tinto (Jean here, I had to look that up and found that in Spain, it means any kind of red wine!). We came back to our room and enjoyed another hour in front of the pellet stove.
Good night all... from Spain... God bless you one and all.
The cute place I'm staying tonight...
And... Jim and I enjoying dinner and catching up!
