Mission today... to find the Crumb Cake I remembered from childhood!

Today... we spent quite a bit of time on the East Side. Jillian made plans to meet up with a childhood friend, Krista H, for lunch. Jer and I said we would meet her approx 2pm over on Lexington.  Had our first hot dog this trip from a street vendor... they sure seemed smaller than in the past..but still quite tasty!  Took the subway over to Grand Central Station... there was a bakery there that had some Crumb Buns, as we use to call them!  Hoofed our way over there... and NO CRUMB BUNS!... talked to one of the employees and she went looking... hidden behind some other treats on the shelf... two cakes left... "We'll take them, thank you very much!"  Success.  Off to get Jillian.
Decided we didn't want to continue our adventure with the bag of treats, so back to the apartment we go to drop them off... but found a quick geocache on the way!
Made plans to visit a Ballet Bud of Jillian's, Sara Kurriger, over on 1st and 75th... Off we go again...subway only part of the time... and then hoofing some more.  Finally, we got to "The Pony Bar".  Had a great beer and grill cheese sandwich... but best of all, got to chat with Sara while she was working.  Ms Jillian and she will be getting together again, but without Jerry and I tagging along.
Our next plan was to go check out the staging area, on the west side, for the Giant Balloons they have in the Turkey Day Parade.  Took the bus, but all the schedules were messed up due to, yup, the parade preparations! We figured it would be crowded... OMGOSH!!!!!!...More than just crowded. I think it was the precursor to the actual parade crowds.  We attempted to get to the area... got close... and said... WHOA.... this is not 'fun'.... so, instead... we found the subway a few blocks and down to the west, and headed back to home....After we got back home, Jillian picked out an upscale lounge for drinks and small plates.  Ahhhhh, the end of a very nice day!

Good Morning Times Square

Till this floor, shines, like the top of the Chrysler Building..... from "Annie"

Grand Central... truly Grand!

They had my Crumb Buns!

Cheers

  1. Wowie! Great photos! Sounds like continued fun adventures. I do love to visit there but like you said, the crowds are something else---esp when you're used to 14000 people total on our island--heehee. Keep on EXPLORING & ENJOYING!
