The roads… well, The Road to Hana on the isle of Maui ain’t got nothing on this, the Amalfi coast. And so much history… going back so far. The day was a little hazy, but I think you can see by the pics, it was still beautiful!
We left pretty early, trying to avoid a lot of the tourists…. I know, we’re tourists, but still, our guide, Christina had a great plan… and it worked well.
If you get car sick, or have a real problem with narrow roads and steep drop offs, this might not be the trip for you. I sat on the side, next to the coast… Jerry was quite happy about that. Sometimes, I swear, there was nothing but a straight drop to the water HUNDEREDS of feet below. It was awesome in my book, maybe not in some peoples… When we got to Amalfi, we did walked around the town and visited the cathedral (and crypt) of St Andrew… brother of the apostle Peter… Oh my gosh, so, so much history… I want to share it all, but, alas, too much to write and too much for you to read.
So So Beautiful!
This is a town on the way to Almafi...
Loved this church... there are lots and lots of churches.... Some are being 'decommissioned' as churchs... kinda weird, but, I'm sure if folks aren't using them to worship, they cost an arm and a leg to maintain....
Not sure if can feel how high up we are on a road that is basically one and a half lane... interesting... Glad we didn't have to drive!
The crypt of St Andrew.... Michael Angelo created the statue... It really is not two ton as the picture looks.... weird lighting they had there....
These are the 60+ steps down from the cathedral....
Bell tower...went off every 15 minutes, like a ships bell
The narrow streets of Amalfi... The above pic, so perfect... Old Italian woman, laundry hanging out, looking over the balcony.... BUT WAIT... An air conditioner on the wall... What happen to my illusion!!!!
Yippee, a pic of me at a fountain in the center of town!
On to Ravello!
Amazing photos! Sounds and looks like a beautiful experience. I can't wait to read more.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely gorgeous pics! Love the one looking down the church with the bay & boats. I hear more pasta & wine calling............
