It’s been a long day and we have travelled a lot of miles… well, not really, but we have done and seen a lot in the short time we have been here. We arrived here yesterday afternoon and had time to relax and shower before a delicious dinner here at the hotel. We ate with 6 others from our group of 21 folks. I spent a lot of time chatting with Paula, an Australian who works in Singapore, about 30 yrs old traveling by herself with the group. We really had a good time getting to know each other. We’ve met super people on this journey, even a couple from FOX ISLAND! Can you believe that?
Anyway, this morning started early cuz we wanted to get to the Vatican before it opened up to those without RSVP’s and not with a group. My word…Even at that time, the lines were forming. Fortunately, we were ushered in pretty quickly… PTL! Ricardo, our guide, spoke, explained, kidded around and was serious when he should be. We wore this little “Whisper Ears”, so we could hear him easily. They were little ear buds with a receiver.
The Vatican… Majestic, huge, ornate, filled with history. Course, I have lots of pics, but NONE of the Sistine Chapel… no photos at all allowed in there. The Chapel was the highlight for me. Much of the fresco’s there and elsewhere in the Vatican are so unbelieveable. When you are there, they are so three dimensional… They do NOT look like they could possibly be a flat surface… but alas, they are. Oh, Carol… not you two Holy Cards… they are different than what I am use to, but they have been blessed by the Pope… (I think he blesses them by the box full!)
We left the Vatican with the intention of going back to our room after a bit of lunch! Well, talking about where we wanted to eat, we got a second wind and next thing, we found a quaint street with a great bar…. Now, bars here are like a deli and such. Had a small sandwich and a glass of wine and felt refreshed and ready to go!
We went to the Spanish Steps and then on to Trevi Fountain,. You know, they are beautiful fountains, but unlike the movies… they are packed with people. Got pics, and one set shows me on the Spanish Steps with Jerry slowly zooming in…otherwise, we are just little dots!
Anyhoo, we continued on walking around, and made our way back to the hotel… that’s the last pic... My word, I just remembered, yesterday we went to a fabulous park here in the city… reminded me of Central Park in New York, only cuz it’s a large area of green in the middle of the city…Statues there dotted the park, as well as trees, lawn, and on and on. All right… a late afternoon name is calling! My feet want to rest and I have a book calling me to flip through a few pages! Later guys! .
these are flat paintings.... painted to look three dimensional!
Once again fabulous pics!! Travel on..........
