Hull Rust Mahoning Mine View

After visiting Judy’s hometown, we headed off to Hibbing… Jerry’s idea… Hibbing is Bob Dylan’s (aka Zimmerman) home when he was a youth (It's not marked officially, and all notes about the home ask that you not bug the current owenrs..)The last picture in this series is his home.
We also found out it’s the birthplace of Greyhound Bus Lines. They even have a little museum there with old buses… We opted not to stop there and were we glad. You see, we found the Hull Rust Mahoning Mine: the biggest operating open pit iron ore mine in the world, more than three miles long, two miles wide and 535 feet deep. This man-made "Grand Canyon of the North" was the first strip mine on the Mesabi Iron Range. They have built an amazing view area for folks to visit while you watch the mine actually at work. And the vehicles they you…. So huge! They have a retired older truch there we could walk on. It was all pretty cool!
