June 7
So I’m walking along on the trail pretty brisk breeze probably 20kn in my face but it’s all OK. I find the trail is scattered with what looks to be scotch broom that has been cut... makes walking very soft on the trail. Maybe the best use of scotch broom that I’ve seen yet. Awesome day more later.
Now I can get to the rest of the story...
The first village after Rabanal is Foncebadòn. Yet another cute little village... there is obvious resurgence of people and business. they are in the middle of a new concrete road on the main street. They are pouring concrete from a front loader... I decided to get a picture... I need to set this up so you might get the picture. I had to remove my glove from my right hand so I could operate the camera. Also because of the rain threat, I had the camera in a ziplock bag with my passport and the credential for the Camino. So, I am standing beside the fresh concrete... are you getting the picture...? Are you contemplating the outcome?... so, my walking stick and my right glove are in my left hand... did I mention the wind...? A gust comes up and ripped the glove from my hand and it falls on the fresh concrete... so I reacted... planning to bend down and pick it up... losing my balance, If you do the math... all else was in my right hand... phone and passport and credential... Of course I put my hand down in an effort to stop the fall.. My phone left my hand and landed also on the concrete... I think I went into enough details... suffice it to say I was more embarrassed than hurt, so a worker helped me up and I exited the area. I did a quick check to confirm that I had everything and was not hurt... and off I went. (You’ve been hanging around your wife too long Jerry, and her talents of creating falls is rubbing off on you!!!)
On with the day. I took several pictures... the views were outstanding, and I hope the pix do justice to the views. As you can imagine, climbing up one side of the mountain and those views and then climbing down another side and those views!!! Amazing! It was about 39 degrees when I started walking with some windchill, actually I did see a smidgeon of snow... and about 243 drops of rain... All in all, it was a great day! I prayed for no rain and wind together... we had plenty of wind, but almost no rain... Thank You God!
I met a young lady from Virginia at the first village on the way down, we stopped at the same restaurant for lunch, but did not sit together. Shortly after, we were back on the path and we started talking. She recently graduated college and is planning to attend graduate school in the fall: museum science or some such. We walked and talked to my destination. I am sure we shared the talking, but she may not agree. Meredith is her name. Very enjoyable conversation. I treated her to a Coke and wished her well... she was walking to another town.
I saw some Irish folks I have seen several times as I was looking for my hotel... turned out they are staying at the same hotel. I checked in and showered and took inventory of my body: a raspberry on my right knee and a slight sting on my right hip when the shower first hit it. Some clothes were in need of attention, I removed the lower pant leg on my right side and washed it as well as my hanky and both gloves. As I finished, the register came on in my room so I had a place to dry things... I know you were dying to know that bit of info…!
All in all, a very good day. I apologized to God for not paying attention... He forgave me and we are good.
Continued appreciation for your thoughts and prayers... I feel totally covered...
Another ‘good night ‘ from the Camino in Spain! Love to all!
This was at 10:30... was much colder when I left at 8:30
Looks worse than it is....
Town I'm staying in tonight!
My room tonight... and my gloves... All the cement came out of my pants and the gloves... Oh and my phone!
Wow another great day indeedy! Parabens/congrats on the climb & descent! Since I have a "fall" habit as well I totally get your cement mix----heehee! Recently took a tumble in Lisboa a couple of weeks ago, ahh well... Walk on....
