Okay, nothing to do with the sites, but all six of us
gathered at the gangplank and headed into town.
It quickly becomes obvious in this sorta situation, that all six of you
cannot wander through the old brick city walls (which are ginormous and, in
many areas, so, so, so many shops). So,
as soon as we got inside, we were trying to figure out a place to meet up. Liz and I are calculating times, when the
voice of reason, Julie, chimes in and says “Let’s just hook back up for Happy
Hour on the boat around 5 ish!” Aha, the
voice of reason! And, with that, we all
took off!
Jerry and I wander through the hawkers of ‘hungry? Eat here?
Free wifi!’, the shops (did I mention shops?) and got out a little
further. There were still some shops,
but it was not so frantic. Got to the
ruins of Aphrodite’s Temple, and they were just ruins. It’s hard to believe just how old everything
here is. We went down several little
lanes, and came across one, where no one was hawking food but there was an
awesome little restaurant we stopped at for lunch! Very relaxing!
There are so many ‘fortified old cities’ in Europe, and
Greece is no exception! This area was
occupied by the Knights of the Order of St John for 213 years and they built
the thick walls, moat, etc. that protect the city. Another thing I must look up at home!
Found our first geocache in Greece and it should have been
easy, but we made the mistake of being off by 28 feet… higher than the cache
with no way straight down. Plus, we left
the city walls (which was hard to do in the labyrinth of paths) and it was in
the moat, so we really miscalculated! Not having 24/7 cellular data to help the
GPS is the issue. Anyway, we got it and liked
the moat which is now beautiful grass and even an amphitheater!
Got back to the boat in the afternoon, cooled down, and, yup,
headed to Happy Hour and met up with Julie and Jens, and then Liz and
Gary. Fun dinner followed by an absolute
giggle fest by the girls in the Ladies Room!
Oh, and we won musical trivia later in the evening!

Our restaurant!
Now we're off the beaten track!
The humor in this, is this is handicap parking... yet everything around is stairs and steep!
We crossed the moat bridge thinking we were on our way to the geocache... we were on the top of the wall on the right in a park. But, no, the cache was not there... but in the moat!
Found our way about 1/4 mile away that was an entrance to the moat from the street.
Aha, he's following GPS again
And, there it was, hidden in the rocks
