Mestrovic Gallery and a Roman Emperor's Palace here in Split!

Enjoyed a tour at Ivan Mestrovic Gallery.  I personally had never heard of him, but, after having the curator at the museum educate us and we got to see then seeing his work, we felt it was/is pretty impressive.  He’s Croatian, but did eventually move to the States and became a US citizen.  His work is quite distinctive and located all over the world.
We finished up there, and headed back to the city, next to the waterfront where we toured the Emperor’s Palace (yes, a Roman Emperor!).  This was built around 300 AD as the retirement home of Diocletianus, a Roman Emperor who was quite interesting.  We walked around the palace all the while we had a guide really filling us in on the place.  It was originally filled with the pagan worship items, gold, marble, which made sense as the Emperor was known to kill Christians at that time and embraced the Roman values.   Christians, though, won out in the end, and within the Palace walls, Jupiter’s room was turned into John’s Baptistry, a cathedral was built over the mausoleum, get my drift?  Today, the area is filled with shops, apartments, restaurants… all within this history!
The above two people are neat, so google them if you really want to know about them!

Adam and Eve carved from trees... Eve was never finished...
A different version of the Pieta.. Joseph of Arimethia holding Jesus-that's the guy who gave his tomb to Jesus.  Pretty real...
 Oh, look at these cuties!
 the Palace orginally when built

This sucker is where they stored the olive oil!!!

Getting ready to watch the sun go down!
