At dinner last night, we were having a great conversation with our server. As we closed the evening up, we asked her if there was a place where we could walk a bit and discover something many tourist don't see. She suggested Vizcaya, about 3 miles from where we were staying.
We checked it out and were not disappointed. It's a villa built to look like an Italian-Renaissance style villa over a couple hundred years old-yet, in reality, it was built from 1914 to 1916, when Miami not yet settled this far south and the population was only 10,000 people. It was spectacular with the fixtures and design.... plus the beautiful gardens, all right on the coast of Biscayne Bay. Sad to say, the owner, James Deering was only able to enjoy it for about 9 years, before he passed. There was an Orchid Garden, fountains everywhere, an indoor/outdoor pool, and original furnishings.
A man made sea wall... made to look like a beautiful barge!
Not a big bridge, but it's a bridge! and the wind tried to take my hat!
